ODIN's DNA RESULTS

When we first brought Odin home, we were a little unsure about his breed - his breeder advertised him as a pure fox red golden retriever which we knew right away wasn’t right (because just look at him - he does not look 🦊 red at all!!) so a few months ago I decided to do a DNA test to find out more about Odin, and let me tell you that the results shocked us!

This is the brreakdown of Odin's breeds...

  • 70% Golden Retriever

  • 9% Irish Setter

  • 7% Labrador Retriever

  • 7% Irish Red and White Setter

  • 7% Rottweiler

Some of the results were shocking - as I would never guess he had any Rottweiler in him but it was so interesting to learn more about him and his heritage. We also foudn 2 of his close relatives - one lives in Ireland wheras the other one is located in London. We had an all clear on all of his genetic health issues which is such a relief

Knowing your dog's DNA can provide a number of benefits, including:

UNDERSTANDING THEIR ANCESTRY

Learning your dog's DNA can give you insight into their ancestry and breed mix. This can help you understand your dog's physical and behavioral characteristics and give you an idea of what to expect as they age

IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL HEALTH RISKS

DNA testing can also help identify potential health risks that your dog may be prone to. This can allow you to take proactive measures to prevent or manage these conditions and ensure that your dog lives a long and healthy life

CUSTOMISING YOUR DOG'S CARE

Knowing your dog's DNA can also help you tailor their care to their specific needs. For example, if your dog is prone to certain health conditions, you can work with your veterinarian to create a customized care plan to address their specific needs

ASSISTING WITH BREEDING

For dog breeders, DNA testing can be an important tool in ensuring the health and well-being of their puppies. It can help identify potential genetic health risks and assist in making informed breeding decisions

TRAINING & BEHAVIOUR

Some breeds are known for certain characteristics, such as being energetic or being prone to barking. Knowing your dog's breed mix can help you understand its behaviors and tailor your training and care accordingly

PERSONALISED NUTRITION

Some breeds may have specific nutritional needs based on their genetics. DNA testing can help you understand your dog's specific needs and choose a diet that is tailored to its individual needs

GENETIC DIVERSITYDNA

Testing can help you understand the genetic diversity of your dog's breed mix, which can be important for responsible breeding and the overall health of the breed
